A classification of the different forms of malocclusion based on the extent of misalignment of the mesiobuccal cusp of the maxillary first molar in relation to that of the buccal groove of the mandibular first molar particularly when opposing teeth meet

This manner of classifying types of malocclusion is first described by the father of modern orthodontics, Edward Angle. The classification is used as a basis in making a treatment plan for malocclusion.
