A large, pyramidal in shape, air-filled paranasal sinus within the body of the maxilla, communicating with the middle meatus of the nose on the same side.

The antrum of Highmore is the largest of the paranasal sinuses (other sinuses are frontal sinus, ethmoid sinus, and sphenoid sinus). The name is associated with the English surgeon and anatomist, Nathaniel Highmore. Although the sinus was earlier noticed by Leonardo da Vinci and Giulio Casserio even before Nathaniel Highmore described it.
