Camphor
(Science: chemical) a ketone obtained from the wood of cinnamomum camphora, an evergreen tree native to eastern asia, or produced synthetically, with a penetrating characteristic odour and a pungent, aromatic taste. It is applied topically to the skin as an antipruritic and anti-infective and is used as a pharmaceutic necessity in certain pharmaceutic preparations.
Pharmacological action: anti-infective agents, local, antipruritics, pharmaceutic aid.
