Duplication of an entire or a portion of a chromosome.

Chromosomal duplication may lead to mutation, and to disorders such as Pelizaeus-Merzbacher disease (PMD), a rare central nervous system disorder commonly caused by a complete duplication of the region of the X chromosome containing the PLP1 gene.
