Corrosion
(Science: chemistry) chemical process that results in reduction of the structural integrity of the material being corroded.
The process might include chemical interactions between a fluid, (such as lithium or water coolant) and the containing material (such as stainless steel), which would result in wall material dissolving into the fluid, and possibly degradation of the mechanical properties of the containing structure.
