Dystrophic calcinosis cutis

Definition
noun
A form of calcinosis where deposits of insoluble calcium salts are found in a preexisting skin lesion or in damaged cutaneous tissues with normal serum calcium and phosphate levels.
Supplement
While idiopathic calcinosis cutis is rare, the dystrophic calcinosis cutis is the more common form. It may occur in localized tissue damage (such as burns, arthropod bites, acne lesions and others) or in generalized tissue damage (such as in connective tissue diseases like dermatomyositis).
