Electron transport system

A sequence of redox reactions wherein the transfer of electrons from an electron donor to an electron acceptor is coupled with the transport of protons across a membrane to generate a proton gradient that drives ATP synthesis.
The major function of electron transport system is to extract energy via redox reactions coupled with the production of a proton gradient. The electron transport system is involved in photosynthesis and cellular respiration.
