A type of hemolysis on blood agar plates as shown by a green discoloration around the bacterial colony caused by the peroxides produced by the bacteria.
Supplement
The hemolytic reactions of streptococci on blood agar plates can be used for their preliminary identification and classification. For instance, Streptococcus pneumoniae forms green hemolysis whereas Streptococcus pyogenes and Enterococcus faecalis display beta and gamma hemolyses on blood agar plates, respectively.
