Hair disk

Hair disk refers to the specialized spot of epidermis characterized as a small round disk around a hair follicle. It is comprised of a thickened layer of epithelial cells and Merkel cell – neurite complexes. It has a peculiar neurophysiologic feature for being a slow-adapting mechanoreceptor. Variant: hair disc. Synonym: haarscheibe.
