In human anatomy, the hamulus of spiral lamina is the upper hook-like termination of the osseus spiral lamina (also called lamina spiralis ossea) at the apex of the cochlea. This lamina is a bony ledge projecting from the modiolus into the inferior of the cochlear canal. The hamulus of spiral lamina helps form the boundary of the helicotrema, a hole in the cochlear labyrinth where the tympanic duct (also known as scala tympani) and the vestibular duct (also known as scala vestibuli) meet. This opening is where the two passages (scalae) communicate. Variant: hamulus laminae spiralis. Synonyms: hook of spiral lamina, hamulus cochleae.
