(2) A condition characterized by prolonged breathing of air at a faster rate than the normal or when at rest
Hyperventilation in humans may lead to dizziness, fainting, light headedness, and cramps. That is because hyperventilation results in decreased carbon dioxide in the blood below the normal level since it is expired faster than being produced in the body. When this happens the pH level of the blood rises. This in turn causes blood vessels to constrict, which then slows down oxygen transport into various body parts, including the brain.
