Iliocostalis muscle
(Science: anatomy) The lateral division of the erector spinae, having three subdivisions: iliocostalis lumborum musculus, iliocostalis thoracis musculus, and iliocostalis cervicis musculus. Iliocostalis originates in the commontendon (lumborum) and the posterior surface of ribs 1-12. It inserts in the transverse processes of lumbar vertebrae 1-3 and the posterior surface of ribs 1-12. It also inserts off of the transverse processes of the lower cervicals.
Synonym: musculus iliocostalis, iliocostal muscle.
