MAP kinase 6

A protein recognized as extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) implicated in various biochemical signals and protein phosphorylation.
MAP kinase 6 gene is mapped on chromosome 15q21 that encode Ser/Thr protein kinase involved in manifold biochemical signals such as cell proliferation, transcription, regulation, differentiation and development which localized in the nucleus and activated in the fibroblasts. It intercede apoptotic cell death in thymocytes, controls melanocytes dendricity by modulation of Rho family and the key MAPK11 activator in response to TNF.
MAP kinase 6 has a highest expression in skeletal muscle and brain as well as low in placenta, heart, liver, lung, kidney, pancreas and skin fibroblasts. It mediates p38 MAPK activation necessary for interleukin-1-beta induced cardiac myocytes and PGE2 biosynthesis. It also plays in cellular response of cytokines and cellular stress as well as vital for the activation of MAPK11 and MAKP13 induced by environmental stress.
MAP kinase 6 is associated with the microsomal compartment involved in mediating secretory processes. It is also implicated in ovule development as well as induced by pathogens, ethylene biosynthesis, osmotic stress and oxidative stress.
