A degenerative process in which the connective tissues are replaced by a gelatinous or mucoid substance.
Supplement
For instance, myxoid degeneration of the tendon occurs when the normal fibrilary appearance of the tendon is replaced by a homogenous, opaque, mucoid type of tissue.
Synonym: myxomatous degeneration, mucoid degeneration.
