Dictionary > Radiolucent

Radiolucent is the property of any material that is transparent to x-rays. many x-ray imaging tables in hospitals and clinics are radiolucent so that they do not interfere with the quality of the x-ray examination a patient is undergoing. If the table were not radiolucent, all we’d see on an x-ray film is a big white blob. Most metals are not radiolucent, but radioopaque. The most common radiolucent material (and widely used for the contruction of x-ray examination tables) is carbon fibre.
