(biochemistry) A recycling biochemical pathway where a salvaged intermediate from degradative pathway is used to be converted back into being a complex biomolecule.
Salvage pathways are important especially in organs that cannot carry out de novo synthesis.
An example of this pathway is salvaged bases and nucleosides formed from the degradation of RNA and DNA, which are used and converted back into nucleotides.
