The enzyme that catalyzes the breaking off of the signal peptide from the growing protein

Several signal peptidases have been found both in eukaryotes and prokaryotes. In eukaryotic cell, the signal peptidases are found at the rough endoplasmic reticulum (presumably at the luminal side), at the mitochondrion, plasma membrane, and chloroplasts. In prokaryotes, they are in the prokaryotic plasma membrane.
