Thymus-derived cell

noun, plural: thymus-derived cells
A type of white blood cell that functions in cell-mediated immunity, and is distinguished from other types of lymphocytes by the presence of special receptor (T cell receptor) on the cell surface.
The thymus-derived cells are called as such since they primarily mature and differentiate in the thymus. The different types are:


  • T lymphocyte
  • T cell
