Usable light range

usable light range
(Science: microscopy) The ratio of the maximum to the minimum levels of illuminance over which a video camera or camera tube can provide a usable signal. Being aided by automatic irises, graywedge wheels, etc., in addition to varying electrode voltages where permissible, the usable light range can be several orders of magnitude greater than the intrascene dynamic range.
