A serine protease isolated from Staphylococcus aureus strain V8, capable of cleaving peptide bonds on the carboxyl side of glutamate and aspartate residues in a sodium phosphate buffer
V8 protease released by Staphylococcus aureus V8 strain improves the latter’s pathogenicity. It acts by cleaving and inactivating antibodies and other antimicrobial peptides.
V8 protease can also be used as cleavage enzyme in research methods (e.g. amino acid sequence determination or peptide mapping).
