The body cavity of the human body (and other animal bodies) located below the thoracic cavity and above the pelvic cavity.
The abdominal cavity, which is part of the large abdominopelvic cavity, holds the major viscera. The viscera found in this cavity include the stomach, liver, spleen, gallbladder, small intestine, and part of the large intestine. The kidneys are located behind the abdominal cavity.
It is separated from the thoracic cavity by the diaphragm but is not separated by any physical means from the pelvic cavity.
