Exponential growth

Definition
noun
A growth in which the rate is proportional to the increasing number or size in an exponential (rather than arithmetical) or logarithmic progression
Supplement
This kind of growth is often observed in bacterial population wherein the growth of bacterial cells increases by a multiplicative factor per unit of time. Thus, a colony of bacteria can be expected to double by a fixed percentage of the whole for a constant period of time. An example of exponential growth is 2, 4, 8, 16, … every 20 minutes.
