A neuron in which the axon is enveloped by a layer of Schwann cell membranes (sheath).

The myelin sheath that envelopes the nerve cell is crucial for faster conduction of action potential. This type of neuron is found in the peripheral nervous system (especially the sensory and motor neurons) and the white matter of central nervous system
