Neuromuscular junction

A chemical synapse between a motoneuron and a muscle fiber, through which a signal is transmitted that ultimately cause the muscle to contract.
In vertebrates, the signal is transmitted across the neuromuscular junction via the neurotransmitter acetylcholine.
