The transportation of ultrafiltrate back from the renal tubule through the flow of water rather than by ion pumps or membrane proteins.
Supplement
This is more typical in renal physiology than gastrointestinal physiology. The process is described to be paracellular, occurring across the tubular cells than through transcellular.
