upland
(Science: botany) Any area that does not qualify as a wetland because the associated hydrologic regime is not sufficiently wet to elicit development of vegetation, soils and/or hydrologic characteristics associated with wetlands. Such areas in floodplains are more appropriately termed nonwetlands.
