(physiology) The shortest period of time required to produce an effective electrical stimulation such that the stimulus strength is twice the rheobase
Supplement
Chronaxie is one of the points that can be defined through the strength-duration curve (the other is rheobase). Determining chronaxie is essential, for example in the medical field where it is applied in electromyography, a technique used to diagnose neuropathy, myopathy, and neuromuscular junction diseases. For instance, the chronaxie value provides information regarding the electrical activity of the diseased skeletal muscle.
